Development Plan Open – Council Holding Public Meeting
A nine to ten-storey building planned for central Frankston will help revitalise the city, says proponent Greg Farmer.
Mr Farmer said South East Water’s move to build an eight-storey headquarters in Frankston had partly been a catalyst for his $50 million development plan. “We see South East Waters are attracted to Frankston for the same reasons we are – the infrastructure,” he said.
Mr Farmer said Frankston was “crying out” for development and improvement, and his proposal slated to feature a mix of retail, residential and office space – will help boost employment prospects.
The development is slated for the Nepean Highway site now occupied by Frankston Hi Fi, the Pint and Pickle and a former Sydney’s Furniture building. It is directly opposite the newly revamped 10-storey Peninsula On The Bay complex and if successful, will block it’s direct views of the bay.
The proposed building will have a 59m frontage along Nepean Highway and stretch 55-56m to Kananook Creek.
Key features include:
* A 7m wide arcade, beside the existing Pragmatic Training Cafe, going between the highway and Kananook Creek
* Retail on the ground floor along the highway, more shops along the arcade and boutique cafe shops on Kananook Creek boulevard.
* 360 car spaces in the basement and mezzanine levels, with 10,500sqm of office space and four residential apartments
* Nine storeys on the McDonalds side of the building, 10 storeys on the north side, and a tower in the building’s centre on the Nepean Highway frontage.
A consultant for the project, John Enright, said it had been designed to minimise shadowing of residential properties.
“We are looking for a major tenant,” Mr Farmer said.
The developer said the building will be promoted to other businesses and government bodies.
Frankston Council will host a public meeting on the development at the Mechanics Hall, Plowman Place, on May 14 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Residents can view the plans and ask questions.
